It’s been a really long time since I’ve commented on current events on my blog, but it used to be something I did quite often in the days before kids. I had a lot more time back then to keep up on it all, I suppose.

It has been 17 days. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 has been missing for 17 days. Vanished without much of a trace.

I am completely fascinated by this story. Disturbed. Anxious. I just really, really want to know where the plane is and what happened. I cannot imagine being a family member or friend of someone on board.

The information coming out of the authorities, the media, aviation experts, and more—it is something different every day. In the days following the disappearance, I believed without much doubt that the plane had experienced mechanical failure and had crashed into the ocean. Now? Well, now, given that they haven’t been able to find the plane, and have uncovered some more evidence… I don’t know what to think.

It sounds as though they are certain that the turn the plane made—altering the flight path—was done deliberately. So the question becomes WHY?! What was the pilot doing? If something sinister happened, what was the pilot (or whoever) trying to accomplish? Why on Earth would the plane continue flying for seven hours after turning off course?

I am so lost on this. I just cannot imagine what could have happened.

With every passing day, the experts are saying that the chances that the world will NEVER find the plane are growing exponentially. What if they never find it? It’ll be one of history’s greatest mysteries.

Who else is following this story as closely as I am? Do you have a theory you believe more so than others? Or are you just as confused about it as I am?

It freaks me out. In this age of technology how do they just not know where a plane went? After 9/11 I would have thought better tracking would be on planes. It would be nice to know if we should be worrying about more terrorist attacks or if it was just a horrible horrible accident. I can’t imagine what the families are going through.

I am also following this like crazy. At first I was sure it was terrorism, but then I was leaning towards “well they would’ve found it by now if terrorists had it” so maybe it crashed? I’m convinced if it happened anywhere even close to the US, we would have more information though – drives me nuts. And I can’t even imagine being a family member of one of the passengers … I was thinking the other day, when do you just give up? And then how awful would you feel if you gave up but then your family member was okay? It’s truly a confusing mystery.

They never found Amelia Earhart’s plane. Obv that was a different time, but still. The ocean is HUGE and it could just be gone forever. I haven’t been able to follow along as much as I wish I could, but it is definitely fascinating…

They have issued a notice to family members that they have determined the plane went down in the southern part of the Indian Ocean with no survivors. Absolutely devastating. Still so many unanswered questions and things that just do not make any sense.

I have to wonder if whoever is responsible orchestrated the whole thing deliberately to distract the media, drain countries of their funds while they look for the plane, and generally confuse and cause obsession to the public. I haven’t been following it too closely, but the way everyone has attached themselves to the story makes me wonder if that was the goal all along.

*Additional – Imagine some sinister person/s sitting back watching everyone go absolutely nuts over this and just having a field day. Different type of terrorism.

Like you, I have been very fascinated by this story, as well! I recently came across this article, and thought it was a good one, and definitely makes sense. So scary and sad, no matter what. I just pray those poor passengers didn’t suffer for long. :(
