On our way down to the Poconos, we made our traditional stop at Wendy’s for Frosties. As always, we had to share with Tess!

Hey… not to rain on your parade… but you know that chocolate is one of the worst things you can give your dog?
    Along with grapes???

    Jacqueline–

I guess it’s a good thing it was a VANILLA frosty then, right? And that she was only licking the remnants of what was in the cup? We didn’t actually feed her a frosty.

We are not idiots. And I’ve had dogs all my life. I’m well aware of the rules on chocolate and grapes. I’m *guessing* you don’t know that onions are equally as bad, or you would’ve posted to tell me about that, too.

Also, if I had to guess, I’d say that the actual chocolate content of a Wendy’s chocolate frosty is pretty damn low. Way lower than the ENTIRE BASKET of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups my family’s dog got a hold of and ate while we were at school during one Halloween season (and never suffered any kind of harm from it, either… she lived to be 15).

While I appreciate your concern, you didn’t exactly come off in the best way here–“Not to rain on your parade.” If you read my blog at all, you know that we do everything possible to keep Tessa fit and healthy, especially given the health scare(s) we’ve been through with her. So maybe you should give us a little credit, and shouldn’t be so quick to make assumptions?

Wow… I wasn’t trying to be mean at all. I just know that SO many people are unaware of the dangers of chocolate, grapes, onions (yes, I knew about that one too!), etc.
I DO read your blog, and I DO know that you take care of Tessa in the best way. But I DIDN’T know that Frosties came in vanilla. No idea. Just being concerned. Not calling you an idiot.
Sorry if I offended you because it certainly wasn’t my intention.

    Jacqueline,

No worries. I guess I took your comments the wrong way. The way it was worded, it seemed like you were saying EVERYONE knows that chocolate is bad for dogs, except us.

But we do know, and my husband actually ordered a vanilla frosty over a chocolate one JUST so that he could let Tessa lick the cup.

We pride ourselves on taking the best possible care of her (we barely ever feed her any table scraps, we feed her a good quality, natural food, etc.), so I did take your comments as insulting. She gets to lick a vanilla frosty cup once per year, as a special treat.

Hopefully we can chalk this up to a misunderstanding of tone–which can often happen online–and get on with it.
