Mama’s Girl
I’m not going to lie.
It makes me a little sad when I think about how Tessa’s life is going to change when we bring a baby home. Maybe that’s pathetic, because I know, she’s a dog. But she has been “the baby” for more than four years now, and we know she loves her life. So to upset that just makes me a little sad for her.
Sure, she won’t be ignored. But still, her place in the hierarchy of our little family is going to be bumped down a notch, and although that is obvious and to be expected, well… again, it’s just… sad.
Changes. They are a’coming.

I'm Heather. I'm 33 and have been married to Michael for seven years. Together, we have two beautiful little girls we love more than anything, and a miniature dachshund who drives us crazy. I'm a full-time working mom who has very little time for my own "stuff" these days, like home improvement, cooking/baking, cake decorating, and photography. Despite the team not making the playoffs since 1999, I'm STILL a Buffalo Bills fan, which I think speaks to my loyalty AND sense of humor. I can't wait to pick up the pace with travel again some day... you know, when we're done being ruled by tiny fists. Welcome to my blog. The Address

aww, I worry about our Gracie the same way! She’s my first daughter :) I think once the babies are aware of her though she’s going to be so happy to have them around!
She already goes into the nursery and curls up in front of their cribs, it’s really cute. Like she knows something good’s coming soon!
I think that’s completely understandable. My husband and I call out cat our “son”, and I hate to think he might get a little less of our attention when we have a baby.
Our poor Doxie is going to have the hardest time not being ‘the princess’ anymore.
We worry about the Same thing with our Bella Bean. We just tell her that she’s going to be mommy’s little helper. You know Tessa will get up with you in the middle of the night for feedings, she’ll be your company at 2 in the morning. But it is sad to think about. You’re not alone!
It is tough. We had our first dog (he’s 13 now) for about 4 years before our Son was born. He’s a big dog and he was an angel dealing with Eric as a baby. Eric would use Brutus to pull himself up when he was learning to walk, he would yank his ears and sit on him. Brutus has put up with a lot of crap.
He went from sleeping in our bed (he is back in our bed along with our other dog we got a year ago) to sleeping downstairs, since Eric was sleeping in our bed with us.
I don’t think Brutus ever felt any resentment towards Eric because he was never bad, so we didn’t have to tell Brutus no a lot or anything like that.
It will be fine, Tessa will understand :)
I worried about our little mixed terrier Reggie too when Amelia was coming. I have to say, yes, he had been bumped down but had adjusted beautifully. He’s protected of her but is really gentle around her. Unfortunately, we are not able to give him the same amount of attention as we did prebaby, but such is life and we try to make it up to him as much as possible.
