This made me chuckle.

Disclaimer: I’ve never actually seen an episode of Jersey Shore. But unfortunately, I do know who Snooki is, and I know enough to realize that this is funny. Ha!

Upon reading this heather, honestly, I was in disbelief.

It was not long ago that I read on this blog your hope that Nora being born on sept 11 wouldn’t define who your daughter is.

Now you find it ‘humorous’ that someones unborn child, regardless of who the mother would have the potential to end the world.

One would hope that snooki’s misgivings won’t have a negative affect on her child, as people have, and always will have, the ability to change and grow.

Her child will grow up with limited privacy, a fault on Snooki’s behalf, but perhaps also a similarity can be drawn on the invited publicity of this blog.

  2. Heather says:

Are you Snooki? Snooki’s mom? Snooki’s sister? Somehow associated with Snooki?

Because if not, I cannot for the life of me figure out why you would feel the need to sling such hurtful words in my direction in retaliation for REPOSTING a joke. That’s right, reposting. I didn’t make it up. The joke wasn’t born within my brain. I simply laughed at it, which apparently makes me a terrible person. At least I know I’m in good company with–oh, I don’t know–at least 50% of the population, given how many times I saw this joke in Facebook feeds, on Twitter, and the like.

I am sorry that you saw this and actually thought that I believe that the birth of a child “has the potential to end the world.” It’s a joke. About someone who has so blatantly chosen to put herself in the public eye, and for things like binge drinking, bar fights, and sex. Yeah, I guess I should really spend time feeling sorry for her, huh?

I understand not liking the joke. I even understand thinking its inappropriate, as–in your opinion–it’s at the expense of the child, not Snooki. OK, fine.

But to hit so far below the belt as to insult my parenting choices is just… harsh. You’ve obviously been here a while, as you were so clearly able to remember and reference a VERY HEARTFELT–arguably one of the most emotional things I have written–post of mine from six months ago. After all this time, I wonder–if you can judge me so harshly for the reposting of ONE joke, you must already think so little of me. Otherwise, if you felt like you “knew” me in any way, I can’t imagine why you would feel the need to come out so strongly against this post. And then I wonder why you’re here in the first place.

It is comments like these that make me consider throwing in the towel and making my blog private. Funny how they always come in anonymously.

  3. Pete says:

It’s easy to talk trash anonymously. Blow it off, or use it to your advantage, people will come to your defense, like ME.

Anyway, it stinks, but YOU are also in the public eye, and open to criticism. You can’t please everyone, and you should try to. Big ups to you for not editing it out.

p.s. if you want to look at it from another viewpoint,
I was jealous that someone commented on your post, even if it was negative, because NO ONE comments on my site. :)

    Pete

    Ugh… Anonymous (aka Coward)
First of all, writing a blog does NOT equal starring in a reality show where you perpetually embarrass yourself through your lack of knowledge, work ethic, and sobriety. The ‘publicity’ one garners by doing one of these things is also far from equal.

And second, it’s a joke. Go take a walk in some sunshine, do us all a favor, and lighten up! Geez!

  5. Pete says:

Dur, I meant to say “You can’t please everyone, and you SHOULDN’T try to”.

  6. He says:

I just had to pop over here and tell you that I think the joke is hysterical :)

  7. I, for one, found the joke completely hilarious. Guess that makes me a horrible wife, mother, daughter, friend, HUMAN, etc. Oh well, at least I’ve got quite a few people around me with the same sense of humor.

As you said, funny how this kind of cowardice is always posted anonymously.

  8. Pete says:

Like Morrissey says, “There’s a place in hell for me and my friends”.

  9. Lesley says:

Wow, I commented on your other post, but I felt like I had to here, also. So anonymous feels like she can judge you because you are public with your blog, and somehow compare that to Snooki? And her unborn child? Are you kidding me? Don’t worry about stupid people like anonymous, Heather – you have the support of so many people, me included. And the “limited privacy” she mentions similarity in? Ummm…ok, well you’re not on MTV, whoring it up, getting wasted and getting PAID to be a whore.

Anonymous – you have the balls to insult Heather, but you don’t have the balls to post who you are?? Nice.

Heather – you are a great mom to Nora – she’s lucky to have you. Period.

  10. Michelle (Australia) says:

I don’t know who Snooki is, I also don’t fully understand the association with the date or the Mayans and the end of the world. So to me this joke falls flat because of those reasons.

Perhaps Anonymous and Heather should both take a step back from the situation and their emotions. Jokes, words and pictures do not always come across the way they are meant.

People will always disagree unfortunately, perhaps we will find that this inability to agree with each other will be the real reason for the end of the world.

Heather I have always enjoyed your posts. Being on the other side of the world I find it fascinating that we have similar concerns for our families, child and even renovating (although I don’t know how you have the time to achieve so much!). Please continue the posts they are great fun.

  11. Vanessa says:

Anonymous, are you seriously suggesting that someone who exposes their child on TELEVISION (and is apparently likely to bring them up surrounded by sex and bar fights), will afford their child the same lack of privacy as the child of a blogger, who blogs on parenthood rather than anything grossly intimate, and who might have, say a 1000 readers (most of whom are probably like-minded, sensible people)?
I understand Snooki is a sensationalist reality tv star who is broadcast on networks and appears in gossip magazines.

Frankly, the suggestion that there is event a hint of similarity is frankly ABSURD. You need a reality check. And a drink.

  12. Jessica says:

The funniest thing about the joke is that it isn’t even true. Someone that is due on 12/21/12 wouldn’t even be pregnant yet.
Anonymous, I think you’re taking it a little too personally. There is a HUGE difference between being a huge idiot on TV and blogging about your(not idiotic) life. People judge celebs all the time. Numerous people have posted this card. It’s funny. Get over yourself.

  13. Carrie says:

I thought the joke was hilarious. Step off Anonymous.

  14. Sandy says:

I understand where Anonymous is coming from – having myself come from a family structure that was not at all any form of a structure and therefore making the choice to leave home at 15 and work towards a better life.

It is and always will be hurtful for me when I hear people make comments that suggest that someone’s family dictates what sort of human they will be.

It is not and never will be a funny joke when the joke is based on someones misfortune. Snooki has made mistakes, but why does that make people feel better about contributing and reposting jokes that obviously do not help her to become a better person. Can’t we laugh at other things?

  15. Heather says:

Sandy, I take issue with anyone calling it a “misfortune” in reference to Snooki’s baby. All jokes aside, I think we can all agree that this baby is very unlikely to be “unfortunate” in any way. If there’s anything to be said about “reality” TV, it’s that it’s not very REAL–so although I’m happy to pass on a joke that I thought was funny, I’m not altogether certain that Snooki is not completely different in her REAL life than she is on her stupid show. Like others have mentioned, she is laughing all the way to the bank, and as long as she’s not a complete dumbass with her money, her baby should be able to live a very comfortable life, and hopefully with a decent mother to boot. I think comparing Snooki’s child’s upbringing–especially considering the child isn’t even born yet and we have no idea what that life will be like–to your own troubled upbringing is being unfair to yourself, truthfully. I do understand where you’re coming from in that the joke is personal to you, but there are SO MANY jokes out there that at least one person can take offense to. To your point, yes, of course we can laugh at something else, but is it not also possible that the emotions attached to your experiences lead you to take the joke too seriously? Can’t we just let a joke be a joke and go on with our days? In the end, far more attention has been brought to the joke now that there has been all this debate about it, you know? I know that I myself have moved on from laughing about this, as this is nearly two weeks old now.
